Gavin Miller graduated from Cambridge University, with a First and Ph.D. in computer graphics. While at Cambridge he directed plays, and wrote and produced his first original drama. He was also an active member of LITSOC, a literary society, and was technical editor of their journal "The Miscellanea" which published some of his early poetry, short fiction and computer art. He then worked in Toronto on experimental special effects software and produced his first animation that was shown as part of the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theater. Subsequently, he created a number of award winning computer animations, including "The Audition" which won the Best Story Award at Computer Animation '91. During the same period, two of his plays were produced by the Menlo Players Guild in California, to local critical acclaim. In the early 2000s his first collection of short stories was published called "Gregorin and the Three Witches" which included the two plays recast into short fiction, along with other fairytales, both retellings and original stories. His more recent writing includes short stories spanning a range of genres, and a collection of poetry. His most recent play, The Montagues and Capulets, represents a synthesis of his multiple interests, combining poetry, drama, comedy and a sprinkling of science fiction. Gavin Miller is also well known in the robotics community for a series of experimental snake robots, one of which was the usher at his wedding.
