Michael Mitnick is an American playwright and screenwriter. Born September 7, 1983, Mitnick grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Harvard University and was a member of the Hasty Puddings Theatrical Society. While at Harvard, Mitnick wrote and co-wrote four musicals, including one Hasty Pudding Theatricals show. After graduating in 2006, Mitnick worked at The Atlantic Monthly before attending Yale Drama School for an MFA in Playwriting.

Some of Mitnick鈥檚 best-known theatrical works include Elijah (2010), Babs the Dodo (2011), Sex Lives of our Parents (2011), and The Seigel (2017). In addition to his playwriting, Mitnick is also an accomplished songwriter. His music and lyrics have been sung on Broadway in King Kong the Musical, at Lincoln Center, The Guggenheim, Joe鈥檚 Pub, 54 Below, and on HBO. Mitnick has also found success as a screenwriter. His best-known screenplays include The Giver (2014), The Current War (2017), and The Staggering Girl (2019).

In 2012, Mitnick received the Visionary Playwright Award from Theater Masters. In 2103, Variety magazine selected Mitnick as one of 鈥�10 Screenwriters to Watch''. A two-time winner of the Edgerton New American Foundation Award, his play Fly By Night was nominated for four Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical in 2015.
