Hal Hackady, formally named Harold MacHackady, and sometimes credited as Hal Hackaday, is a lyricist writing partner for the composer Larry Grossman for a few broadway and off-broadway shows including Snoopy!!, Goodtime Charley, and Minnie鈥檚 Boys. In the 1950s through the 1960s, Hackady worked as a screenwriter for numerous TV shows and a few movies including the musical Hey, Let鈥檚 Twist for which he received a nomination from the Writers Guild of America Best Written American Musical in 1963. Also in the 1950s and the 1960s, Hackady wrote the lyrics for popular songs 鈥淲ithout You鈥�, 鈥淪hake Me I Rattle (Squeeze Me I Cry)鈥�, and 鈥淜ites鈥�. Hackady helped to write the sketches for the 1955 musical revue, Almost Crazy, with James Shelton and Robert Bernstein. The first thing Hackady collaborated with Larry Grossman on was the song 鈥淧lay It Again, Sam鈥� for the romantic comedy play of the same name from 1969. Snoopy!! was nominated for the Olivier Award for Musical of the Year in 1983. In 1986, Hackady wrote the lyrics for the New York Met baseball team theme song, 鈥淟et鈥檚 Go, Mets鈥�. Over the course of his career as a lyricist, Hackady has worked on and written lyrics for 14 shows both on Broadway and off-Broadway.
