The legend of Orpheus, a musician who tries to use music to rescue his dead wife from the underworld, is a popular subject with opera composers. Monteverdi鈥檚 尝鈥橭谤蹿别辞 is one of the oldest operas in existence that features this story, and remains popular with audiences over 400 years after its premiere.
