Context
Prospero has put Ferdinand through several difficult challenges but now he explains his motivation. He wanted to test Ferdinand's love for his daughter, Miranda. Prospero is satisfied that Ferdinand is a decent man but he warns the young prince that he must preserve her innocence until after their marriage. This assurance puts Prospero's mind at rest. He calls his servant, Ariel, and prepares to present a display of magic, music and dancing for the young couple.
