King Edward II is imprisoned in Berkeley castle. He has abdicated his throne, but his rivals in power--namely Mortimer--believe that he is still a threat. Lightborn has been hired to kill Edward II. But before the murder, Lightborn sits with the doomed king, philosophizing about life and death.
