Context
This is the opening scene of Lost in Yonkers. Jay and Arty are teenage brothers, waiting in their grandmother鈥檚 hot and stifling apartment while their father talks to her in the other room. The brothers don鈥檛 know why they are there, but are curious. They have also recently lost their mother to cancer, and are committed to supporting their father as much as they can.

ARTY: (in front of fan) It鈥檚 hot. I鈥檓 so hot.
JAY: I鈥檇 hate coming here if it was cool. Pop doesn鈥檛 even come and it鈥檚 his own mother 鈥�
