Context
Norman and Ethel Thayer are preparing to leave their beloved summer home in rural Maine, after their 48th summer on Golden Pond. Their chatter as they move boxes around is interrupted when Norman, who tries to carry a heavy box of china, collapses with pain in his chest. Norman鈥檚 pain is not enough to stop him arguing with his terrified wife, or trying to direct her efforts to get someone on the telephone.
