Context
Alan, who is the head psychiatrist at the Berkley School is finally making some progress with David, a troubled youth that won鈥檛 let anyone in. David is a rageful teenager, and Alan just wants to help. In this scene we find David entering Alan鈥檚 office where Alan must break the news that his parents don鈥檛 want David to attend school with him anymore. Alan knows this will hurt David dearly, so he is braced for the worst of it.

START: DAVID: Where鈥檇 you get these?
ALAN: I bought them.
DAVID: (With half-concealed surprise.) For yourself?
ALAN: Right.

END: DAVID: Cut out the 鈥渦nderstanding-the-kid鈥� stuff. Do I have to break every damn thing in this office before you鈥檒l fight back?
ALAN: You mean fight back against your parents, don鈥檛 you? I did--believe me, I did! Maybe they鈥檒l reconsider after a while. If they do, I hope you鈥檒l come back--
DAVID: (Half-choking as he fights the tears) Don鈥檛 hold your breath! (He turns and runs off.)
