Context
Katherina is a young, alcoholic lesbian who is cynical and disenchanted. She receives unwelcome attention from Ippolite Ippopolitovich Popolitipov, a bureaucrat in his sixties who is not aware of her sexuality. He has got her a job as a security guard at the Pan-Soviet Archives for the Study of Cerebro-Cephalognomical Historico-Biological Materialism and visits her nightly.
