While Mary tries to be tough against him, she does love him, and he realizes that he loves her and wants to be with her, whether they are attractive or not. MARTIN DOUL. I鈥檒l be going now, I鈥檓 thinking, but I鈥檓 not sure what place my stick鈥檚 in, and I鈥檓 destroyed with terror and dread. (He touches Mary鈥檚 face as he is groping about and cries out.) There鈥檚 a thing with a cold, living face on it sitting up at my side. (He turns to run away, but misses his path and stumbles in against the wall.) My road is lost on me now!
