Context
Despite their language barrier, local girl Maire has found herself falling for Lieutenant Yolland, a British soldier with the Royal Engineers regiment. They went to the local dance together and have sneaked off for some privacy. They talk properly for the first time, despite neither speaking the other鈥檚 language.
