Context
Robert has been consumed by concern for his missing friend, George Talboys. For six months, he has searched for him and now he has come to a realization. He has found proof that Lady Audley is George's supposedly dead wife and he has come to confront her about it. Lady Audley initially tries to brush off, and then deny his accusations. However, when the proof is mounted against her, she reminds him of the shame and disgrace that will be brought upon the family if the truth comes out.

Robert. Six months have passed, and yet no tidings of George ; he cannot be living, or he must have seen the advertisements that I have inserted, begging him to communicate with me. If he had died suddenly, some one would have given information of his death. What motive could there have been in concealing it?
