Context
The actor, Charles Hart, comes to find Nell Gwynn, a local orange-hawker. He has just finished a performance at the theatre in Drury Lane, which didn鈥檛 begin well. The actors were heckled by an audience member, until Nell spoke up and put the heckler back in his place. Hart is astounded by Nell鈥檚 confidence and realizes that she has the potential to be a good actress. He appreciates her wit and her bravery, and decides that he will teach her how to become a performer in an age where women did
