(Livi speaks to her husband Pax, who has been pushing her to explain why she didn't pursue her dream of becoming an actress)
I remember how everyone got quiet, okay?
Quiet...and still. Like they were all connected to me. All a part of me. Even Dad and Barry 鈥 I looked out, even they were...seeing me. I mean, really seeing me. And at the end of the show, when I stepped forward to take my bow the applause was鈥攚as鈥 It was deafening. In a little high school auditorium. It was deafening and 鈥 Dad and Barry were applauding with the rest of them. They had these big smiles on their faces.
Afterwards Dad took us out to dinner. And I was thinking, this is it, ya know. He鈥檚 finally seen what they all see. We sit down. The first words out of his mouth are 鈥淪ure, you were OK, but I鈥檓 not really sure you鈥檝e got the movie star look. Take Annette Benning 鈥 she鈥檚 real tall, isn鈥檛 she, Barry?鈥 鈥淥h yeah, Liv,鈥 Barry says, 鈥渕ovie stars are real tall.鈥 So I鈥檓 like, 鈥淲hat about Marilyn Monroe? She was short.鈥 And Dad just looks at Barry and says 鈥淣ow she thinks she鈥檚 Marilyn Monroe.鈥 And they just laugh and laugh.
Dad wanted me to come work at the Techno-Hut. He didn鈥檛 want me to leave.
You ask me if I鈥檓 truly happy having stayed? I don鈥檛 know. I live a good life here.
