We can鈥檛 afford it. You鈥檝e forgotten--no, you鈥檝e never known--the finances of this place. For the past seven years we鈥檝e lived on Father鈥檚 pension. That was modest enough, And now that鈥檚 gone. The only other income is from the land and Will takes that because no one would but that can鈥檛 continue.

--seventeen buckets in the upstairs rooms to catch the water. And the only fire we had all last winter was in Father鈥檚 bedroom. And on a day like this it looks so beautiful, doesn鈥檛 it?
