Text

Now listen to me, Whiteside. I know you. Lay off, I know what a devil you can be. I鈥檝e seen you do it to other people, but don鈥檛 you dare do it to me. Don鈥檛 drug yourself into the idea that all you鈥檙e thinking of is my happiness. You鈥檙e thinking of yourself a little bit, too, and all those months of breaking in somebody new. I鈥檝e seen you in a passion before when your life has been disrupted, and you couldn鈥檛 dine in Calcutta on July twelfth with Boo-Boo. Well, that鈥檚 too bad, but there it is. I鈥檓 going to marry Bert if he鈥檒l have me, and don鈥檛 you dare try any of your tricks. I鈥檓 on to every one of them. So lay off. That鈥檚 my message to you, Big Lord Fauntleroy.

Hart, Moss, and Kaufman, George S. The Man Who Came to Dinner. Dramatists Play Service, Inc. 1967. pp. 29-30.
