Mission: Through Inclusiveness and rigorous creative inquiry, the Department of Theatre and Dance provides comprehensive training in theatre and dance emphasizing passion, performance, collaboration, community and issues of social justice.
Outcomes: Theatre Arts graduates will be able to:
- Perform for audiences, on stage or in other areas and careers.
- Engage individuals and build community through meaningful theatre and dance experiences.
- Reflect on historical and contemporary works of theatre and dance from diverse cultures.
- Create performances that present human issues in inclusive, exciting, original ways.
Performance at Cal State East Bay is an important aspect of the department's undergraduate curriculum. The program leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre degree provides comprehensive instruction in the theatre arts. Formal classes are offered in theatre history and literature, script analysis, voice and speech, oral interpretation, acting, theatre organization and management, creative dramatics, directing, scenery and costume design, lighting and stage make-up.
